Cathedral Palms LogoSo much for "it never rains in Southern California"! We have had more rain in one week than we have had in four years. There's a lot of snow on the mountains to remind our Snowbirds of home.

Cathedral Palms

With all of this rain comes some beautiful Spring flowers in yellow, blue, purple and orange, making the mountainsides come alive with a blanket of color.

Once the rain stopped, everyone is now out and about enjoying the sunshine and taking a dip in the pool.

The News Year's Eve Chili and Soup cook-off was a great success with twice the amount of people as last year participating and some of us actually made it until midnight.

Last month was also one of many film festivals in Palm Springs; lots of stars come in for all of the events, so it is a good time to run into one or two of your favorite actors.

As always there is lots to do and see in the Coachella Valley. One very popular place is Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel; for $3 to $8 a day you can relax in the eight different natural hot mineral water pools. It is known as one of the best natural hot mineral spas in the country - if you want to truly relax that is the place to go.

In February there will be a Desert Hot Springs Spa Tour where you will have the unique opportunity to visit around 20 of these spas. The event will cost $10 for advance tickets and $20 at the door. February is always a great month to visit the desert. One of this year's headliners is A Chorus Line, running from January 29 through February 14. Neil Sedaka will be here Feb. 5-6, and funny man Bill Cosby has one show February 15.

With so much to do and such nice weather to do it in it is easy to see why Cathedral Palms RV Resort is such a Beautiful Winter location.

Hidden Springs LogoJanuary started off with very unusual weather for us. It was extremely cold with temperatures plunging to 13 degrees and we had below freezing temperatures for over 60 hours. South Mississippi is not equipped for these kinds of temperatures.

Needless to say, when the temperatures began to rise the water lines began to thaw and burst, making Hidden Springs look like Geyser Springs. We would like to thank Shane McKenzie and Lewis Johnson for helping us get all the pipe repairs made in such a timely manner.

Week three brought spring-like conditions with temperatures in the upper 70s and several rounds of storms bringing heavy rain. We received 4 inches of rain and the National Weather Service out of Baton Rouge, La. issued a flood warning for the Bogue Chitto River at Tylertown and Hidden Springs. Well here we went again, moving picnic tables, trash barrels and etc. out of flood danger. The river was to crest at 17.5 feet on Friday, but we were so lucky it crested at 13.7 feet and now we could focus on finishing the repairs from the last flood. Things are very slow here this time of the year and volunteers are hard to find but with a few phone calls some of our faithful volunteers came to our rescue once again. Thanks go to John Estess, Lewis Etheridge, Warren Johnson, Lewis Johnson, Cheryl Hilton and Chas Etheridge for helping Winston and I work on the cabins this past weekend.

Granny showed her appreciation by fixing lunch Saturday for all the volunteers. Winston and I would like to thank each of you for helping us. Everything you do for Hidden Springs is greatly appreciated.

Ground Hog Day is February 2, hopefully it will not see it's shadow, as we do not want six more weeks of cold weather.

We wish each of you a Happy Valentine's Day and would like to invite you to come camp at Hidden Springs. We have RV and tent sites, along with four rustic cabins all nestled along the Bogue Chitto River where a friendly and help full staff awaits your arrival. We hope to see you soon.

Ponderosa Park LogoAs the 2010 camping season beckons, we've been busy as ever, cleaning up the campground, planning events and new this year, we are attending four RV shows to promote both Ponderosa Park and our sister park, Tomorrow's Stars. While the economy still has a long way to go, RV dealers at the shows are seeing significantly increased sales so we're hoping that is a good sign for camping in particular and everyone in general.

So far we've been to the Cleveland RV Show at the I-X Center and the Dayton RV Supershow. This month we'll be in Cincinnati Feb. 5-7 and next month Columbus March 12-14. If you're attending, stop by our booth and say "Hello!".

Despite being a short month, February certainly has its fill of special events! Perhaps the biggest is Super Bowl XLIV, which takes place February 7 in Miami between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints.

The following Sunday is Valentine's Day, followed by the start of Mardi Gras on Tuesday, Feb. 16. It's a sure bet there will be lots of parties for all three events!

Oh and yes, it has been cold here as the photo will attest!

Tomorrow's Stars LogoHello again from the great State of Ohio, home to the beautiful Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort. The weather is lovely, trees budding, flowers popping out of the ground, birds singing (only in my imagination).

Tomorrow's Stars

Clubhouse is nearing completion

No matter how hard the winter, our new clubhouse is right on schedule; all we have left to do is the tile floor. Some members are donating money for a stage - HOW GREAT IS THAT? Everybody loves this park and is willing to help out to make it even better.

Tomorrow's Stars

We look forward to enjoying our new clubhouse this season!

We recently had a booth at the Dayton Airport Expo Center RV Supershow and it was a great success. We met a lot of nice people looking for a place to camp this summer.

We are working on the upcoming season's schedule, going with what was successful last year, such as the Model A Car Show, RV Expo and Civil War Re-enactment. New this year is the all-day Blue Grass Festival. A Golf Cart dealer will be bringing in a display of carts. Also, last but not least, an ROTC unit from a local school will perform. Many other surprises will pop up I'm sure.

If cabin fever has got you down, the nearby Clark County Fairgrounds has the 7th Mod-Tiques Car Show (March 7), Antique Show (March 20-21), Model Train Show (March 28) and Motorcycle Swap Meet (April 11). The big Flea Market Extravaganza that you have all been waiting for is May 14 - 16 and will feature over 2000 venders.

I’M looking forward to all my Snowbird friends to return home. I'll leave a light on for you.

Marvin Heck
