Another
month has come and gone which means we will be getting some
cooler days and great evenings. We are all looking forward to
once again being able to cook and sit outside without sweating.
We are beginning to repair our pool and
clubhouse and plan on having it all completed by the beginning
of the season. We have had all of the trees trimmed and most of
the oleanders cut back. But, just when we think we are all set,
we have to start at the beginning again; they all grow too fast.
Now the park is looking really good and ready
for all of our return/new members and we are so looking forward
to a new season; it gets pretty lonely here for a few months.
With the new season comes all of the great
entertainment. Ongoing is the Palm Springs Ariel Tramway that
goes up the side of Mount San Jacinto, you can just take the
ride or have a ride and dine trip; either way it is a way to
spend the day or just a few hours. We sometimes go up just to
cool down a bit. There are also the Eco Jeep tours that visit
palm oasis, steep walled canyons and much more; the drivers are
full of knowledge about the area that alone will boggle your
mind. And there is, a must see living desert wildlife zoo and
nature walk. On Sept. 12-13 there will be a resource center in
Palm Springs for those in need. This alone, along with many more
entertainers, is reason enough to come stay with us. Please call
for reservations so we can ensure you a great site, we are
filling up pretty fast. We hope to see you real soon.

Ed & Linda Littles

Things
are going great here at Hidden Springs. We are all thankful to
have dodged a potential bullet as Fay tore through surrounding
areas. Fortunately, we were not severely affected by her wrath.
I would like to take this time to extend my condolences to all
those less fortunate. Our hearts go out to those families who
suffered loss due to this dangerous storm. You are in our
prayers.
We have also been busy in preparation to begin
the construction of our new bathroom facilities at the front
pool. Plans have been laid out and construction is set to begin
shortly. Everyone is very excited and anxious to see the new
addition.
As summer winds down and school starts again, I
look back over the past few months and reminisce about the
moments we shared here with all our members and guests at Hidden
Springs. Seems like the summers get shorter and shorter, but the
fun times and memories get sweeter and sweeter. However, it’s
not COMPLETELY over yet. We are all looking forward to our last
big event of the season. Labor Day is just a week away and, as
always, we plan to celebrate with our HSR family and friends.
There will be events for everyone including bike races, bingo,
cake walks, and not one but TWO dances this year!! DJs, Wes and
Kim will be spinning the tunes both Friday and Saturday nights
for our enjoyment; so be sure to bring two pair of dancing
shoes!
Granny is stocking up for her always delicious
breakfast. She will be serving Saturday, Sunday and Monday
mornings in our kitchen. So make your plans now to join us for
the fun as we celebrate this Labor Day at Hidden Springs. We
look forward to having you camp with us.

This
season is moving along too fast for everyone. Before you
know it, this season will be over; it’s such a sad time for
everyone. The members have been working so hard to keep up
with the grass and trimming. The park looks very nice and
people coming in comment on it. We have repeat RPI members
that come in a couple of times a season. They rave about the
improvements each time. It makes us feel good that people
notice.
We have had a busy two weeks. R C Promotions
rented our big stage and had a concert here August 24th. What a
challenge to get it all cleaned up and ready. The concert went
well. The show was simply magnificent. Jake Penrod put on a show
that was unbelievable. He did a tribute to Hank Williams. He
just finished a tour in New York where he was in a Broadway Play
doing this Tribute. There was an 11 year old that made a guitar
talk. That was Forest Black.

Forest Black
We are painting some of our He was here 10 days
before the show with his mom and dad and he came out every
evening and played for us. This kid knows over 500 songs and
sings them well.
Then there is his brother Derek Black who is
awesome. He has a number 1 in Australia and a number 7 in
England. R C Barnes, who writes songs debuted his new album.
The star Jason Allen is big in Austin, Texas;
the show here was fabulous. Everyone here commented on the show
and how they would like to return. Jim Black who booked this
show is Forest and Derek’s dad.
The mother, Dixie, has to be very proud. While
she was here she was bored after a week and wanted something to
do. So I put her in the kitchen cutting up onions and helping
clean the kitchen up after the big mess we made getting all the
food ready for back stage. She enjoyed doing this and I even
showed her how to run our dish washer.
If anyone would like to hear their music you can
go on
www.ponderosajamboree.com and click on the star and hear it
all. You will definitely enjoy it.
This week, we will be getting ready for our last
holiday weekend of the season. Everything is falling in place:
putt-putt tournament for the kids (with their parents), golf
cart parade, poker run, bingo and more. Roadwork Band will be
playing at The Red Garter and we will have our Steak Fry,
Chinese Auction, and much more.
I took a lot of pictures, but I laid the camera
down and when I went to get it, it was gone and I still haven't
found it. Jim Black is going to e-mail his copies and when I get
them I will share them with everyone.

It’s
Dog Days in Ohio and it is 90+ degrees and very humid! Of
course, it looks like it’s hot all over the United States, and
I’m sure we’re not the only ones complaining. We sure could use
some of the rain that Florida has been getting; our grass is
brown. The way that time is flying, we’ll soon be complaining
that it is too cold. With the help of extra water, our flower
beds are flourishing even if the grass is dead looking. Kay sure
has a green thumb when it comes to her blooms.
The pool is the most popular spot this time of year. I got a
laugh the other day when I was driving past the pool in my golf
cart. I noticed one of our campers lounging in his chair at the
water’s edge. He would look around the pool with a big smile on
his face, then his head would fall back, and he would snooze for
a couple of minutes. Then he would suddenly wake and jerk his
head back up to look around the pool with his same simple smile
to see if anyone was looking. Suddenly, his head seemed to get
too heavy for his neck to support and back he would slip into
another trance. This

process continued for quite some time. Luckily,
he didn’t see me sitting behind the fence taking his picture.
Thanks for the laugh, Lawrence! Hope you didn’t get any bugs in
your mouth!
We had a really incredible situation happen last
week. A couple pulled up to the office in their motor home just
as I drove up in my golf cart. I told the man that it sounded
like cries of a kitten was coming from his engine area, but we
dismissed it as maybe a bird singing. When we heard the noise
again, we went back to his engine compartment to listen. Sure
enough, it sounded like kitten meows coming from his back grill.
He said it couldn’t be a cat because they had been on the road
for over 2 hours. They drove back to their lot to get settled
and then began the search for the cries. They couldn’t see
anything, so they got out a mirror to look down into a
compartment close to the engine. Sure enough, there were not
one, but two tiny kittens crying for their momma. Our camper had
to cut a hole in this compartment just to get them out.
Apparently Momma had found a way to get into this tiny space and
deliver her kittens. She probably left them to get something to
eat, and when she came back, they were gone. Our campers were
beside themselves as to what to do with these little
hitchhikers. They were not cat people, so they tried to take
them to the animal shelter. Of course, the shelter wanted a lot
of money to take them, so our campers decided to try to bottle
feed them. They were quite discouraged when they came into the
office a week later, saying they didn’t know what to do with the
kittens. I just happened to remember that my daughter told me
that her two cats had kittens that were about the same age as
these, so I called her to see if the momma, who had lost all but
one of her kittens, might take on the two orphans.
Joni stopped out that evening and took the two
little travelers home to meet their new step-siblings. At last
report, the kittens are all getting along just fine. Grandson
Trevor has especially taken to the little black and white
kitten. It follows him everywhere. It’s also special because it
has 6 toes on its front paws. His brother likes the smaller
black one with the deep blue eyes. I said they should have named
them Lucky and Fluky (a synonym for lucky). Our story has a
happy ending! The campers are happy – no cats to worry about,
the kittens are happy to have a new home with new friends to
play with and my grandsons are happy to have these special
little kittens.
We’re hoping to make a new My kitty story is a
good example of these words of wisdom: Happiness is a way of
life that makes the most of opportunities, the least of
difficulties and the best of everything!
